We envision a community with justice for all.

OUR MISSION

MORE Justice’s mission is to build the power of congregations/organizations to solve community problems by holding systems accountable.

OUR VISION

MORE Justice's vision is a city of justice where its systems assure that all people are treated fairly.

OUR WORK

MORE Justice addresses problems that affect large numbers of people and violate a basic sense of fairness, such as the lack of quality education or access to affordable housing, criminalization of people in a mental health crisis, or the right to live without fear of gun violence. MORE Justice is a non-partisan organization.

OUR FUNDING

MORE Justice’s funding comes from three sources: Membership Dues; an annual Investment Drive (leaders collecting investments from individuals and local corporate CEOs); and Grants (various denominational & foundation grants). MORE Justice does not accept government funding.

DART NETWORK

MORE Justice is affiliated with the Direct Action & Research Training Center, Inc. (DART), of Miami, Florida, which provides training and consulting services to 28 community organizations like MORE Justice in 9 states. Through our relationship with DART, MORE Justice has benefited from the expertise and experience of the DART staff and these sister organizations.

DART provides regular on-site training and consulting and MORE Justice sends leaders from member congregations to training events conducted by DART several times a year. For more information on DART training, click here.

The Justice Cycle

Three Processes & Four Events

LISTENING
Every Fall, MORE Justice coordinates a Listening Process where hundreds of people join together in small group meetings across the Midlands. In these meetings, members of the community share how they are impacted by injustices in the community. These injustices are surfaced at the annual Community Problems Assembly where members of the congregations reconvene and collectively vote on where to prioritize our efforts for the year.

RESEARCH-TO-ACTION
After the particular issue is selected, members of MORE Justice form a committee made up representatives from each congregation. The committees begin to research the selected problem area by meeting with experts in the field. Over the next few months the committee works to identify a winnable solution that would bring about meaningful changes to those experiencing the injustice. The committee must also determine a person or persons in power possess the authority to correct the injustice (i.e. Mayor, County Council, CEO, School Board, etc.) The conclusions of the research are presented to the congregations at our annual Rally.

This research leads to action. Committee members meet with those individuals in power the group has identified, brief them on the research and an identified evidence-based solution to address a particular community problem. The group then invites public/elected officials to the annual Nehemiah Action Assembly. At the Nehemiah Action, thousands of community members gather and ask public officials to take measurable action steps to implement a solution to our community’s most pressing problems.

INVESTMENT DRIVE
After the commitments are secured at the Nehemiah Assembly, we hold a banquet to commemorate the year's achievements. At the Celebration, members are invited to invest $200 or more in the work of MORE Justice. Members also go out into the community to tell the organization's story and build partnerships of mutual respect with local businesses.
